Schubert’s Quintet
Schubert’s Quintet – Presented by Andréa Armijo-Fortin
When we hear the Quintet D 956 and consider the fact that Schubert died at the age of 31, we can’t help but think of the masterpieces that could have been created if he had lived 20 more years. This quintet is pure joy: the beauty of the themes, the subtlety of the colors, the human soul laid bare. Rounding out the Ensemble is the wonderful young cellist Aidan Fleet.
Accompanying Schubert is the equally extraordinary Robert Schumann, with the magnificent 3rd movement of his second symphony, arranged for oboe and strings by Humbert Lucarelli, a new gem in the chamber music repertoire.
Robert Schumann (arr. H. Lucarelli) – Adagio espressivo – from Symphony No. 2, Op. 61
Franz Schubert – Quintet D. 956
