Ensemble Prisme pays tribute to contemporary women composers from Quebec and beyond. The ensemble will play music by five women, portraying five distinct musical universes. Two of the composers are connected: the young Keiko Devaux, winner recipient of a JUNO award and an Opus prize, among other prizes accolades, studied with Ana Sokolovic, also recipient of numerous awards, and brand new artistic director of the SMCQ, the oldest contemporary new music institution in Quebec. Their unique visions of the string quartet come together while being very different. will be contrasted.
The ensemble will intersperse works for string quartet by Ana Sokolovic with pieces for solo bassoon by British composer, Nicola Lefanu.
As for American composers, Joan Tower and Amy Beach, they explore the evocative world of winds paired with string quartet. Pioneering Beach will be brilliantly wrought by our young guest flutist Annie Noël-de-Tilly
