From Pain to Hope
Presented by Olivier Philippe-Auguste
Jacques Hétu – Serenade Op. 45
Franz Schubert – Fantasy D 940 (arr. A. Onguey)
Giacomo Puccini – Crisantemi SC 65
Antonin Dvorak – String quartet op. 96 “American”
Music can express all sorts of things. Franz Schubert and Giacomo Puccini wrote pages on the tragedy of life and the inevitability of death. Their search for meaning resulted in the creation of two brilliant works. As for Jacques Hétu, our greatest Quebec composer, he once again knows how to move us with just a few notes. But life always springs forth again, and there are few examples as striking as the American quartet by Antonín Dvořák. It can be seen as the chamber music counterpart to the New World Symphony, a work created by a Czech composer who was discovering America and all its hidden treasures. A work that restores faith in life.
Tickets are available at the door the night of the concert or online.
